SBi-Directions: Solar shading, low energy consumption and high comfort by choosing the right shading

Directions will be prepared to assist architects and engineers in choosing the optimum combination of window pane and solar shading. The directions will be available for new buildings design and facade renovation as well as training of architects and engineers.

Project description

The project's aim has been to develop a SBi Direction for selection of solar shading devices that provide low energy consumption and high comfort. The Directions should help both architects and engineers to make the right choice, both for the design of new construction and renovation of existing facades. Furthermore, the Directions may be used in architectural and engineering educational programs. An SBi-anvisning (SBi Directions) has been prepared with the title ''Solar shading''. The instruction has the following main chapters: - Functions of the shading devices; - Overview of the shading types; - Sun protection in combination with windows; - Requirements and recommendations; - Literature. The Directions is intended as a tool for designers, who make decisions on the facade design and sun protection, primarily for larger buildings such as offices, businesses, institutions and schools. Decisions on the design of the facade are usually made very early in the design process, often already on the sketch stage, so developer and architect can coordinate expectations and desires to building appearance. The facade must meet a wide range of aesthetic and functional requirements, which often contain conflicts among themselves. The Directions willl therefore be a great help to architects and engineers also associated with data for energy frame calculations with Be10
