Anaerobic digestion of straw and increased energy yield of biogas plants
The gasproduction from liquid manure in terms of volume is low and the economy of the plants are often very dependent on the supply of easy degradable waste products and at the moment the extension of new centralised plants is stagnant due to a limited supply of these products.
Adding straw to biogasplants might eliminate the dependency of these products. However there is several questions in relation to the use of straw in biogasplants, as more precise predictions of the yield of different straw types, giving better decision support for future investments. The following items will be analyzed: 1. Methane yield of straw from winterwheat and barley and the influence of retention time and temperature in the different proces steps. 2. Methods for increasing the methane yield as: a) Maceration b) Thermal hydrolysis c) Chemical pretreatment d) Longer retention time for the fibers
