Danish representation in IEA Bioenergy Programme TASK 31 - 'Biomass production for energy from sustainable forestry' 2004-2006
Objective: To synthesise and transfer to stakeholders important international knowledge and new technical information concerning conventional forestry systems for sustainable production of bioenergy.
Work program: 1) Annual workshops and field study tours, for sharing of scientific and technical information and furthering the Task program, with published proceedings. 2) Provision of an information framework for sustainable biomass production systems integrating (1) forest management activities offering simultaneous opportunities for biomass recovery for energy and silvicultural benefits, (2) cost-effective, environmentally-benign operational biomass recovery, (3) sustainable biomass productivity taking into account soil and water conservation, nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration and biodiversity, and (4) social and cultural considerations. 3) Transfer of new knowledge and technical information to research, government and industry stakeholders, with emphasis on advanced user-friendly interactive information technologies (Electronic Information System). 4) Strong collaboration and information exchange with related IEA Bioenergy Tasks and other forestry and bioenergy organizations worldwide. 5) Co-operation and information exchange with Tasks dealing with greenhouse gas balances, short-rotation forestry, and socio-economic aspects of bioenergy systems. Deliverables and Target Groups: 1) Annual workshops with subsequent published proceedings, aimed primarily at the research community. 2) Expanded electronic information system for sustainable biomass production systems, aimed at all stakeholders. 3) Technology transfer including Industry Days, newsletters and Internet-based media, aimed at all market participants
