Test track for the RUF dual-mode system, phase 2 B and phase 3
RUF (Rapid Urban Flexible transport system) is a dual-mode transport system for urban transport. The concept comprises a rail system and electrical cars that can drive on the rail system as well as on ordinary roads.
The range of the car is nor limited by the capacity of the batteries when the car is driving on the rail. By coupling the vehicles together to form a train on the rail, the air drag and thereby the energy consumption is reduced by 2/3 in comparison to road driving. At the same time the capacity of the rail equals the capacity of four highway lanes. The goal of the project is to demonstrate the fundamental principles of the RUF concept in order to show that the RUF system is technically feasible. A RUF has been built and a 24 meters long rail will be installed. The RUF will be tested on the rail and the dual-mode principle will be demonstrated. The basic design of a Maxi-ruf will be carried out and a model of the passenger compartment will be built. A 200 meters long test rail wil lbe designed and will be built in a later phase
