Development of pipeline leak detection system for Lithuania
Based on the pipeline leak detection and batch tracking software developed by COWI, it is a wish to develop a leak detection system adapted to Lithuania's oil transportation system.
Leaking pipelines are a recurrent problem in Eastern Europe. In Western countries pipelines are monitored by leak detection systems and thereby environmental problems, damage to persons or material and loss of product are avoided or minimised. Also theft of product will be detected immediately. Based on the pipeline leak detection and batch tracking software developed by COWI, it is a wish to develop a leak detection system adapted to Lithuania's oil transportation system. The result of the project will be development of the instrumentation concept and development and adaptation of software so that the most economic solution for a leak detection system is found and so that the system will be easy to operate. The system is expected to be developed as a total concept so that storage tanks etc. becomes a part of the system. The aim of the project is to develop COWI's pipeline leak detection system so that it is adapted to Eastern European conditions. Furthermore, it is a wish to develop a concept that can monitor large pipeline systems. The development of such a system could be a great potential in the CIS countries
