All-year procedures for short rotation forestry (willow) for power and heat conversion (gasification, additional support)
A combined systems development and demonstration programme has been initiated in order to be able to identify the necessary and adequate preconditions of a profitable production of fuel willow (salix).
This includes the development of a handling system involving such links as harvesting, storage/drying and gasification before application as fuel at a CHP-plant. Thus a number of activities has been/must be established and recommended with emphasis on the following items: 1) Working out supply strategies for fuel willow. 2) Evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of various strategies and submission of recommendations and/or conclusions that are based on practical experiments and which may serve as dimensioning standards for the demonstration plant. 3) Practical experiments serving this purpose will be planned to such an extent as may be considered necessary, including harvesting trials, transport studies, storage and drying trials. 4) Analysis of the costs of various supply strategies. As the cultivation and supply of fuel willow for CHP production has as yet only taken place on a minor scale in Denmark, it will be equally crucial for the successful demonstration of the concept that considerable efforts are expended on the necessary development and completion activities. The results of this project are also of importance to the utilization of fuel willow in connection with other energy conversion techniques than gasification
