UpsEco - a unique ''plug and play'' power solution for critical energy applications
The UpsEco is a ground-breaking, new technology that provides cleaner energy with better performance at lower costs than current technologies in a wide range of applications. The objective is to develop a generic platform with integrated fuel cell power generator and demonstrate it in different applications to obtain proof of concept to convince potential customers of its potential.
The project aims at accelerating commercialisation of fuel cells lowering the entry barriers of developing and employing the technology. This is done pursuing maximum of synergy across several commercial applications (sea wind power turbines, power for harbouring ships, IT infrastructure and SmartGrid electricity) and by targeting applications where traditional barriers are not present with today's technology (avoiding barriers like excessive lifetime constraints or fuel infrastructure investments). The results are shared developments, shared manufacturing and components, faster cost evolution, reduced suppliers risks - and shorter time-to-market. This project is based on a former EUDP project - DanDan - and will define/develop generic building blocks that matches the different commercial directions. Also, the project is based on LeanEco's propriety system architecture that - by means of a smart use of fuel cells - allows reducing the costs and obtaining state-of-the-art performance with unique customer benefits at the same time. In addition to prototype developments, the resulting platforms will be applied in two demonstrator systems at customer sites in order to promote the technology and to verify the feasibility of the platforms as well of the business ideas. Besides, the results will be used to prepare for a commercial development of the platforms and the parties involved
