Solar prism task force

On basis of the successful work within the EUDP project ''The Albertslund Concept'' a follow-up EUDP project will be realised, focusing on the further development of the ''Solar Prism'' prototype which has generated great interest as ''Business Case'' in relation to energy renovation. Latest shown on exhibitions in relation to the climate conference of KL at the beginning of June 2009 and ''Nordic Climate Solutions'' held on the 8 and 9 September 2009, both taking place in the Bella Center. Here VELUX was represented on the fair with participation from Danfoss, where the Solar Prism was presented with brochures and posters. In relation to the on-going EUDP project ''The Albertslund Concept'' a first time prototype Solar Prism has been developed including heat pump, used together with the prefabricated insulation elements for one single C02 neutral low energy dwelling in a Hyldespjældet housing unit in Albertslund. This was inaugurated in December 2009 in relation to the Climate Summit Meeting (COP 15) in Copenhagen. Besides this a minor Solar Prism will be used, without heat pump, for one single dwelling with flat roof in the buildings ''Røde Vejrmølleparken'' in Albertslund. As for the additional renovation buildings in Albertslund, district heating will be used here. The situation is at the same time that no Solar Prism will be tested in traditional detached houses with sloping roofs, which poses the largest potential for energy renovation in Denmark. The objective of the present project is then, simultaneously with the on-going work in Albertslund by a rapid operating Task Force to carry through a development and product maturation of the Solar Prism in co-operation with VELUX, Danfoss and Rockwool focusing on subsequently demonstration in an ordinary detached house from the 1970ies with sloping roof, in which the climate shield are improved at the same time. The intention is to achieve a low energy class 1 standard. In addition the Solar Prism will secure a total cost effective, prefabricated energy supply - and/or installation solution of high quality. The project group considers this as of decisive importance to ensure a following large scale implementation effect. Calculations with Be06 and BYGSOL calculation programmes show that by this and with limited improvements of the climate shield it is possible to achieve a low energy class 2 standard for a standard detached house of 150 m2 from the 1970ies. It is suggested to investigate opportunities of application in general regarding the use of the Solar Prism as a complete energy supply inclusive use of heat pump, and as an energy efficient installation module for areas with district heating. One of the most important qualities of the Solar Prism solution, which in specific, is decisive in relation to energy renovation is, that the necessary installation elements for a low energy building are here placed in an isolated room without occupying space of the dwelling, by this ensuring that calculated energy savings will be achieved in real, while a total rational installation without risk of defects will also be obtained. As regards the development work one specific issue arises in connection to building integration in relation to sloping roofs, e.g. as regards accessibility related to maintenance, which preferably has to be made from the inside via the lighting chute in relation to the VELUX roof window. Besides, considerations are made on insulation solutions from Rockwool, in which parts of the solution contain mineral wool and with vacuum insulation in order to optimise the volume net. Besides the heating installation and heat recovery ventilation has to be optimised as regards the space and accessibility like the solar collector unit and the hot water tank with a very limited heating loss has to be adopted to the size of the dwelling. As regards the heat pump a larger and improved version is used and in this connection the opportunity of a new and extremely efficient outdoor based heat pump will be considered together with the use of a ground coupled solution. As regards the entire ventilation and heating installation a so called ''climate smart'' solution will be attempted to optimise, based on air heating, primarily. By this dependence on future maintenance of the existing radiator system will be avoided. And for the heat recovery ventilation aim is set on the highest possible degree of heat recovery available on the market of today. Besides, importance is laid on modernisation of application of the Solar Prism, so that each main part of the Solar Prism can be supplied individually as a prefabricated element, assembled on the site in a rational and safe way. Finally the sparse indoor installations of the dwelling have to be optimised to match the detached house, such as air channels and connection pipes for heating and hot-water
