IEA, ETDE Executive Committee, Danish participation in 2010 and hosting an executive committee meeting

Under the IEA-ETDE (Energy Technology Data Exchange) agreement a common database is produced containing descriptions of journal articles, reports, books, conference papers etc. published in the member countries. Many of the referenced publications are online available.

Results

The aim of participating in the IEA Implementing Agreement Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) is to provide national and international access to Danish R&D results within the energy field. Moreover, the purpose is to give Danish research institutions, Danish industry and others access to international R&D results. These objectives are achieved through the ETDE agreement's database ETDE World Energy Base (ETDEWEB). Through active participation (meeting and e-mail communication) in the ETDE Executive Committee and in ETDE's technical working group, influence was exerted on the development of the IEA ETDE Implementing Agreement. ETDEWEB now includes more than 4.4 million references, and 30% of the references have direct access to full text. New search features were implemented which makes it easier for the users to limit their search to their specific needs. The usage of the database has increased again, and the usefulness of building and maintaining ETDEWEB has thus increased. Denmark hosted the 32. Executive Committee meeting. The meeting was held in Copenhagen 18 - 20 May and went as planned. Among other things, the meeting attendees reviewed the latest developments of ETDEWEB and discussed further development possibilities, including co-operation with other information systems. A new model for member countries' financial contributions to the agreement was approved. For Denmark, the change is minimal, and present member countries may choose to continue with their present contribution level. During the year, the members of the Executive Committee has - via e-mails and a common document website - exchanged knowledge and provided ideas for new actions. Decisions that could not wait till the next meeting were made via e-mail. The planned meeting of the technical working group was cancelled (the group normally meets every second year in the US). In spite of this, and through intensive e-mail communication, work continued on the technical development of ETDEWEB. Especially, the members discussed the feasibility of via ETDEWEB to search journal articles from the large publishers' websites without having to spend expensive resources on including the references in ETDEWEB
