Sub-surface failure detection in wind turbine gearboxes
The overall goal is being able to predict remaining useful life of gearbox bearings and thereby (by and large) in wind turbine gearboxes.
The goal of this project is to develop a technique that allows detection of, otherwise undetectable, subsurface failure in wind turbine gearbox bearings, thereby assuring enhanced reliability/gearbox service life. Use of results: Up-tower health assessment of wind turbine gearbox bearings - resulting in less catastrophic gearbox failures plus billions (DKK) saved in annual replacement costs plus massive reductions in CO_2 emissions gained by improved performance
