C02-reductions in low energy buildings and communities

The purpose of the project was to demonstrate that by using new technologies, materials and operation parameters, the heat losses, the heat flow rate and the total costs of district heating can be reduced and hence create a basis for a new standard for the district heating for low energy buildings.

Project description

District Heating is a uniquely flexible heat supply system, which partly exploits waste heat from CHP and industry, partly uses many different types of heat sources, among which is sustainable energy. The increasing demands for reductions in buildings’ energy consumption has made it hard for the district heating sector to compete with individual solutions, due to relatively large losses in the district heating net, and the fact that a large part of the heat tariff is independent of use (which makes district heating too expensive to a low-energy house owner). With this starting point, the purpose of the project is to demonstrate that by using new technologies, materials and operation parameters, the heat losses, the heat flow rate and the total costs of DH can be reduced and hence create a basis for a new standard for the DH for low energy buildings at the national and international markets
