IEA ETDE Executive Committee 2009

Under the IEA-ETDE (Energy Technology Data Exchange) agreement a common database is produced containing descriptions of journal articles, reports, books, conference papers etc. published in the member countries. Many of the referenced publications are online available.

Results
The aim of Danish participation in the implementing agreement Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) is to provide national and international access to the Danish R & D achievements in the energy area. Moreover, the purpose is to give Danish research institutions, Danish business and others access to international R & D results. This is done through the ETDE agreement's database ETDE World Energybase (ETDEWEB). Through active participation in ETDE's Executive Committee and Technical Working Group influence was exerted on the development of IEA ETDE Implementing agreement. At the Executive Committee meeting in 2009, a comparative analysis was presented, which compares search results found in ETDEWEB with those found in Google and Google Scholar. The comparison shows that ETDEWEB provides up to 87% unique results/hits, i.e. 87% of results are only available using ETDEWEB. The use of the database has increased significantly and the usefulness of the efforts to build and maintain ETDEWEB has thus increased. ETDEWEB now includes more than 4.2 million entries, and more than 25% provide either direct access to full text or provide so-called DOI links that allow access to e.g. journal articles provided that the users through their institutional affiliations are licensed to see the articles. From 2008, users in the member countries and many developing countries have access to ETDEWEB without using a password. Access is verified by means of domain recognition, i.e. it is verified that the search is made from a network in those countries which have the right to use the database. It makes access easier for the individual user and is without doubt - along with coverage and increased access to full text documents - the reason why the use of the database has increased significantly. At the Executive Committee meeting in September 2009, Birgit Pedersen was elected vice chairman for one year, and the executive committee accepted the invitation from Denmark to host the executive meeting in May 2010.
