Consolidation and development of partnership for biofuels

The Danish Government has launched the first collective Danish Action Plan for Eco-efficient Technology. The Action Plan will help ensuring that Denmark and Danish enterprises continues to be in the forefront when it comes to developing environmental solutions for the future in the global community. Private enterprises are at the heart of the nine initiatives in the Action Plan. Enterprises and entrepreneurs are those who can develop and supply practicable solutions, whether they are the new generation of mega wind turbines or new enzymes to reduce environmental impacts from livestock manure. The partnership on biofuels is one of these initiatives where private and public companies and institutions are collaborating in order to create new technology for the production of 2nd generation bioethanol and improve the framework conditions for the production of 2nd generation biofuels. The Partnership is currently working on a white book that should provide decision makers with guidelines as to how Denmark can maintain its comparative strength within research and development of 2nd generation biofuel technologies and how production and consumption of 2nd generation biofuels can be managed in a sustainable manner in Denmark. Furthermore the partnership shall publish the first overall website on biofuels in the spring of 2009

Project description

The project resulted in a white paper on biofuel perspectives in Denmark, and conferences and information activities were realised – not least in connection with the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December 2009. The white paper emphasises the substantial unexploited potential in using biomass for second-generation biofuels, during which process valuable by-products for, for instance, power and heating generation and animal feed. The white paper notes that the Danish biomass basis may be increased by a 4-5 ratio by using more side streams and by-products from agriculture, including new sustainable energy crops. (Energy 10)
