Wave Star Energy, C5, 500 kW demonstrator for the North Sea
The purpose is to build a 500 kW wave energy demonstrator for the North Sea, as a first very important step towards commercialisation of wave energy. The EUDP funds mainly cover the very extensive hardware and building costs of the first prototype. Basic technical studies are not part of this project. Mile stones of the project are:
1) Basic design ready for ordering long lead items.
2) Production of main components can start.
3) Assembly of system is complete.
4) Dry test of complete system is complete and ready for installation.
5) System is installed in the sea. 6) Wet test period is completed.
7) System ready and put into un-manned operation.
Demonstrating a real operating system in the sea and gathering real operational data are essential to further progress in wave energy and build up confidence in the technology and future potential.
