AdAmmine - cartridge refilling and dosing technology

Amminex' ASDS-technology enables car manufacturers to comply with the most strict emission legislations using a dosing system with lower installation costs, higher capacity, lower operational costs, less end-user involvement, simpler distribution channels and easier compliance with control demands from authorities than any other NOx reducing technologies.
Amminex has together with their partners demonstrated that it is possible to upscale newly developed production processes to a big scale with high speed. Up scaled production processes has demonstrated a production capacity witch is up to 20 times larger than possible before.
Project description

Amminex' ASDS-technology enables car manufacturers to comply with the most strict emission legislations using a dosing system with lower installation costs, higher capacity, lower operational costs, less end-user involvement, simpler distribution channels and easier compliance with control demands from authorities than any other NOx reducing technology on the market or under development. At the same time, it allows for reducing CO2 emissions (fuel consumption) compared to vehicles with competing solutions.

The ASDS-technology has proven superior to current state-of-the-art and any other system under development in the global market. However, in the competition with large, established automotive suppliers, Amminex must gain foothold in the market by demonstrating industrial scale production and long-term durability of the technology.

First, Amminex must show a full life cycle for its AdAmmine cartridges. To do so, Amminex must develop and demonstrate an efficient and scalable process refill returned cartridges, as regulation, particularly in the US, demand so. Second, the automotive industry only accepts components proven to the industry, so Amminex is forced to develop and demonstrate a new ammonia gas dosing system using such type of components.

The goal of this project is therefore to develop and demonstrate these two new technologies.

Results

Amminex has together with LIPP Mischtechnik developed equipment, process and controlling so that it is possible to upscale and to automate the process with inter alia ammoniac and salt. The process was up scaled from a manual served machine to a fully automatized process which has demonstrated a capacity 10 times higher than before and delivers an ammoniac-salt mix with a very high concern of ammoniac.

The mixing process, which produces a surplus of ammoniac gas, has been integrated with an ammoniac-recycling process, which enables efficient utilization of the ammonia. The recycling process has been demonstrated to be very tough and efficient.

The mixed ammoniac-salt will automatic bee transferred to the packing process, which has been developed with Harro Höfliger. The packing process, machines and tools, has been developed in a way that makes it possible to form packages, dose ammoniac-salt and close the packages with a speed 20 times as fast than what has been demonstrated earlier. All of the packages go through an individual quality check to make the best product possible.

Both processes have been developed and design in a way that’s estimated to be very safe even tough ammoniac is both explosive and dangerous.
