Pre-treatment of fiber-rich biomasses for biogas production
The project focuses on improving the gas yield from animal manure, straw and degassed fiber residues by pre-treatment. The objective is to demonstrate process stability during continuous pilot plant operation and to verify economical sustainability. The pre-treatments will consist of various individual treatments or combinations of these. The primary method is based on pressure cooking with base addition and has by previous EUDP-supported projects demonstrated a significantly positive effect on the degradability of animal manure as well as an ability to remove the major part of the dissolved ammonium nitrogen by stripping. Other methods to be tested include cruching/extrusion and low-temperature pre-hydrolysis. Furthermore, the project comprises detailed design of a first demonstration plant with a patented pre-treatment of degassed manure fibres and consecutive biogas production. The project is a collaboration between a number of participants with Xergi A/S as project responsible and MBE (Morsø Bioenergy) as primary project partner
