Danish participation in IEA Annex 58

Measurements on new and especially nearly-zero energy buildings have revealed that the energy demand often is much higher than calculated in the design phase. There is thus a need for development of well-defined test methodologies. IEA Annex 58 will further develop advanced statistical evaluation methods which better can characterize the dynamic performance of buildings and components.
Project description

Measurements on new and especially nearly-zero energy buildings have revealed that the energy demand often is much higher than calculated in the design phase. There is thus a need for development of well-defined test methodologies leading to more realistic input parameters for components and installations to ensure more reliable calculated energy demands of buildings. To better understand why buildings are performing as they are IEA Annex 58 will further develop advanced statistical evaluation methods which better can characterize the dynamic performance of buildings and components. The work will be carried out as an international corporation with Belgium as operating agent and the anticipated involvement of Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and USA. The work of IEA Annex 58 runs from mid-2011 to mid-2015 and is divided into 5 subtasks:

  • State of the art,
  • Optimizing full scale dynamic testing,
  • Dynamic data analysis and performance characterization,
  • Application of the developed framework
  • Setting up a network of excellence.

The developed method will lead to more reliable designed energy demands for new and renovated buildings and better characterization of the dynamic performance of existing buildings
