Demonstration of partial pitch 2-bladed wind turbine concept

The objective of the project is to demonstrate load reduction potential on tower and foundation of the PP-2B wind turbine concept designed to meet the needs of the existing and emerging offshore winid industry. The demonstration of the PP-2B concept willl be enabled by necessary theoretical calculations and on site measurement campaigns.

Project description

The Partial Pitch 2-bladed demonstration, hereafter PP-2B, gains to demonstrate the new modular 2-bladed wind turbine concept. The target of the project is to demonstrate the load reduction potential on tower and foundation of the PP-2B enabling cost reductions. The work pland consists of 6 work packages (WP):

  • WP1 (envision): Management work package will dela with coordinating work between the consortium members. Here, the purpose is overall project management, including allocation of resources, work plan changes and flow scheduling, as well as general communication ont the project;
  • WP2 (DTU Wind Energy): evaluation of the partial span pitch blade, with respect to power and detailed aerodynamics load distribution using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and evaluation of the dynamic behaviour under pitch actuation, with respect to loads and wake;
  • WP3 (DTU Wind Energy): Develop design tools for two bladed turbines and evaluate aeroelastic loads and stability for the PP-2B design;
  • WP4 (DTU Wind Energy): On site measurement campaign (performance and loads measurements);
  • WP5 (DONG Energy): Aeroelastic analysis of the PP-2B concept and benchmarking with generic 3-bladed wind turbine concept;
  • WP6 (Envision): Aeroelastic analysis of 2-bladed turbine.
