Novel materials for hydrogen storage

This project has built up experimental equipment and expertise in the synthesis of new lightweight hydrides for hydrogen storage.
Results

It was shown for the first time that borohydrides and chlorides can form solid solutions. A number of new metal borohydrides and alanater have been described with respect to structure and physical and chemical properties. This has led to a deeper understanding of this important class of lightweight metal hydrides. The new knowledge willl make it easier to design new materials with improved properties, e.g. lower hydrogen release temperature. The work has formed the basis of an EU research project where iNANO is one of the work-package leaders in the consortium. (Energy 11)
