Reduced energy consumption for melting in foundries
The project was conducted as a PhD study at the DTU in cooperation with Danish foundries and a supplier of foundry machinery. A thorough experimental analysis of the flow of melts in inlet systems was conducted, and a brand new method for designing streamlined inlet systems was developed. The experimental work ensured new, unique knowledge about and understanding of how to control the flow of melts in inlet systems. The project also established a practical basis for realising significant energy savings at foundries, and the results are already marketed globally by the project machinery supplier.
