Results

Anodising is an electrolytic process that gives aluminium a hard, wear-resistant, weatherproof, corrosion-proof and decorative surface, but which is also highly energy intensive. The project therefore studied the effect of pulse anodising experimentally to reduce both process time and energy consumption. The pulse parameters are highly system specific, meaning that the project did not result in a general tool, rather some usable parameters which can be applied immediately for energy optimal operation. Pulse anodising may reduce energy consumption by approx. 30% and process time by up to 50%.
