The family energy game - main project

The game 'POWERengle' will be finished and tested by 10-15 families during this project.
Project description

Based on the results from the earlier project 342-074 the game 'POWERengle' will be finished druing this project and tested by 10-15 families. It is also a part of the project that the game is communicated well for all families in Denmark so the game can motivate the families to focus on energy consumption and energy savings. (Energi 11)

Results

The purpose is to create awareness on energy and climate in the family to have them be aware of their use of energy and to change behavior and attitude. This project takes it stand in the former project 342-074 where pilot were tested with very good results. The project has developed a new board game based on a view of learning, that involves positive feelings and motivation (typically in connection with having fun), new knowledge is something you are constructing yourself when learning is a social process, when learning is found relevant and takes it stand in existing knowledge and attitudes. The game has been produced in 100 copies and distributed to both private persons and companies. Efforts have been made to get distribution partners. This work will continue after project end as an own financed task by Nectar kbh.

During the project period differend communication activities have been developed. The website www.energigevinsten.dk shows the game and it is possible to buy it from the site. Sales brochures targeted potential distributors have been developed and so have sale brochures targeted companies recommending them to use the game as a company present. As targeted the private family has been on a energy magazine distributed to 450,000 households all over Denmark.

The game has been tested and the conclusion of the test shows that the game has a great potential to become a very popular and entertaining family board game that can help to indicate and affect use of energy in a fun, entertaining and instructive way.

The game has the potential to reach a large share of Danish energy consumers here and contribute knowledge about energy and energy savings. There are currently 765,800 families in Denmark and average energy consumption for a family of four in a single family house is estimated at 5,200 kWh per year. For arpartments, the corresponding average energy consumption is estimated at 2900 kWh per year. It is estimated that with simple changes in daily habits consumption can easily cut 10 %.

The test shows that the game will both be able to influence energy comsumption through behavior and through changes in equipment and building shield, as a result of focus on the possibilities for this.
