Development of a carbon neutral lighting for the urban environment

The project includes the first phase of an ambitious venture, which towards 2014 will result in lighting fixtures and lamp posts that, with photovoltaic solar modules, miniature wind turbines and LED light sources, can improve street llighting whil using considerably less energy. The prototype of phase 1 will clarify if this ambition can be realise

Project description

The project includes the first phase of an ambitious venture, which towards 2014 will result in lighting fixtures and lamp posts that, with photovoltaic solar modules, miniature wind turbines and LED light sources, can improve street llighting whil using considerably less energy. The prototype of phase 1 will clarify if this ambition can be realised in a larger scale. (Energy 11)

Results

Hybrid street lighting systems have a bright future and the project has definitely shown that it is an energy system where the weakest link are limiting for the performance of the whole system. The weak links of the state of the art systems on the market is very far from optimal so a lot of potential is available and a good market position is open for companies being the first to reach this goal.
