Treatment of Lignin and waste residues by flash pyrolysis
The option to produce and utilize a slurry of char and pyrolysis oil as an energy carrier will be investigated. The objective of the project is to in-vestigate if a flash pyrolysis unit can be advantageously included in the IBUS and REnescience concepts. The project will mainly be carried out as a PhD project at the CHEC research centre. The activities will be carefully coordinated with Dong Energy and will include the following tasks: 1. Literature study. 2. Residual products from the IBUS pretreatment (mainly lignin) will be pyro-lyzed and product properties will be determined as a function of lignin water content, IBUS process parameters and pyrolyzer operating conditions. 3. The properties of pyrolysis oil and char mixtures will be investigated with respect to storage and flow properties. This will include measurements of product viscosity and product changes (polymerization and separation) as function of storage conditions. 4. Combustion experiments with the pyrolysis oil and char mixtures will be carried out to evaluate the combustion properties. 5. Selected organic wastes (relevant for the REnescience concept) will be pyrolyzed. The pyrolysis product properties will be determined as a function of waste type and pyrolyzer operation conditions. 6. Final report
