''Thi-Fi-Tech'' - Application of thin film technology in Denmark

The objective of the project is to document and demonstrate the economic, functional and aesthetical potential of thin-film PV installations under Northern European conditions.
Project description

The objective of the project is to document and demonstrate the economic, functional and aesthetical potential of thin-film PV installations under Northern European conditions. The project thereby paves the way for a new generation of PV installations giving potential lower cost per unit power produced than installations based on the crystalline Si-technology. Furthermore and as the thin-film technology gives more flexibility with respect to the design of the PV panels than the crystalline Si-technology, the project will envisage new ways of designing and using PV panels in multi-functional installations. The project is built upon 3 cornerstones: 1) A feasibility study giving an overview of the international experience with thin-film installations and based hereupon a review of the possible advantages of the thin-film technology when applied under Danish conditions. 2) A series of measurements designed to characterize available thin-film panels' key performance parameters in various relevant applications, covering both applications with focus on the energy production and applications where the possible added-values given by the PV panels to their surroundings are of equal importance. 3) A demonstration program focused on gaining practical experience with application of thin-film technology in Denmark, and furthermore to communicate the strengths of this technology to the possible users
