A novel concept for preparation of sulfonate containing fluorinated block copolystyrenes have been developed based on initial ATRP of fluorinated styrene monomers. The strategy depends on well defined macroinitiatiors that after conversion to block copolymers can be post functionalized in two steps with propylsulfonate groups in different ratios. Thermal investigations have demonstrated that addition of a PFS block to the sulfonate containing block improves the materials' thermal stability. (Energy 11)
