Full scale demonstration of seriel digestion

In connection with an 2008 expansion and renovation of Lemvig Biogas Plant, various serial operation configurations were tested/demonstrated in full scale. The plant was expanded from having a digester capacity of 3 pcs. 2000 m3 digesters (total 6000 m3) with an additional 7000 m3 digester and total digester capacity 13000 m3. At the same time dige

Results
A significant improvement of digestion efficiency was noted when digestion was changed to serial mode and average total retention time increased. Actual plant biogas yield, compared to the biogas potential, increased from apprx. 86.5% to 90.5-94.9%, corresponding to an increase of 5-10% of specific methane yield. Furthermore, improved process stability and ammonia tolerance was noted. (Energy 11)
