CATION - Cathode Subsystem Development and Optimisation.
Top up funding for an EU project with Wärtsilä and other European partners. A sub module for ~250 kW range SOFC systems is developed focusing on cost, robustness and integration. The sub module integrates  4 SOFC stacks in a 6kW unit, based on efficient integration of the cathode air flow between several cascaded modules. The project work includes design, prototyping, production and test of more than 20 modules. The module is characterized by demonstration of two modules simultaneously in a 50kW system at Wärtsilä/Convion, with an accumulated system test duration in excess of 2.000 hours. The module is based on state-of-the-art SOFC stacks from Topsoe Fuel Cell/Haldor Topsoe, and by project termination the module is documented and verified for introduction in the pilot scale production setup. The project has contributed significantly, together with other projects, to developing a competitive 250kW SOFC system in line with the Danish national SOFC strategy.
