European MCFC co-operation

The main purpose of the present project has been to test a new type of MCFC unit developed in previous phases of the project. Various parts of the plant e.g. MCFC stack, reformer, catalytic burner, anode recirculation blower etc. have been integrated into a compact module - the HotModule.
Results

During the project 3x250 kW MCFC units of the HotModule type has been built and tested at potential end users of commercial units. The first unit was placed at the University of Bielefeld producing electricity and steam. The next unit was placed at a German private hospital, the Rhön Clinic in Bad Neustadt producing electricity, steam and warm water. The last unit is sited at RWE in Essen in their exhibition hall Meteorit producing electricity and warm water. Two of these units have been tested for over a year. The third has been installed and commissioned. In course of the project more than 20.000 h of operation experience has been gained. The electrical efffciency has been measured to 47 % and total efffciency to 96 %. NOx emission:
