Improved biomass firing with new grate system and vision sensor with control

The aim of the proposed project is to develop reliable and efficient combustion systems based on
integration of an advanced vision-based sensor and extended grate controllability with an adequate
intelligent control scheme for optimisation of operating parameters and ensure complete burnout of
biomass fuels with lower quality and greater variations in the fuel properties.

Project description

Working program: develop and install the equipment in boiler plants designed by Euro Therm and BWE, respectively. For Euro Therm including the development of a new grate combustion system.

Status: the camera system and control systems have been sucessfully demonstrated in waste-to-energy boiler plants. Adaptation and development for biomass applications are ongoing.

Use of results: the intention is to improve operational performance of biomass boilers by achieving more stable operation e.g. as stable steam output, thus improving capacity and reducing fuel consumption.
