IEA cooperation on sustainable biomass for energy markets - Task 43 and 38
In this IEA network project, University of Copenahgen will seek to optimize the cooperation between
leading biomass producing and consuming countries in support of sustainable bioenergy deployment.
The project will research topics such as biomass production, mobilization, sustrainability and sustainability
certification, and make the information aviable to private and public decision makers.
The aim of this project is to permit cooperation between Denmark and other leading countries that produce or
consume biomass for energy purposes. The project seeks to contribute to mobilization of biomass for
energy markets, with adequate consideration for food and fiber production, and will obtain knowledge
on and assess which factors are critical to the sustainability of different international
biomass resources and fuels. Economic, social and environmental sustainability aspects will be considered,
including climate effects of replacing fossil fuels with biomass fuels.
The Danish participation in Task 43 network will also contribute to the reporting of a study on parctical experiences
certification in all links of the bioenergy sector, including consequences of sustainability certification for the biomass
and bioenergy markets. The project will provide information materials and participate in other dissemination
activities regarding the sustainable bioenergy deployment, with the information and dissemination being directed
to topics of interest to private and public Danish decision makers. The procect will generally seek to be up front
within areas, where scientific results are important for the development of markets and market bases biomass
certification, policies, and legislation.
