Next generation of exhaust gas cleaning technologies for diesel vehicles

The development of new, highly efficient and compact catalysts for diesel vehicles will ensure an improved air quality and create jobs within this, the world’s fastest growing catalyst market.
Project description
Haldor Tops¿e A/S and Technical University of Denmark join forces to develop new and highly efficient catalytic exhaust cleaning units to remove volatile organic compounds (VOC), particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the exhaust of large diesel vehicles. These compounds contribute to air pollution problems in cities, causing respiratory diseases and potentially cancer. Through detailed lab studies, pilot-scale experiments and mathematical modeling, this project will develop a new innovative filter for combined particle and NOx removal, develop new efficient and cheap catalysts for VOC and NH3 (excess from NOx removal reaction) removal and establish an improved control of the exhaust cleaning units. The project will furthermore investigate how an increased utilization of bio-fuels will affect the performance of exhaust cleaning units.
