Project description
This project focuses on increased power production and reduced loss of heat in district heating (DH) production from MSW fuelled Waste to Energy plants by identifying thermodynamic bottle necks in the DH-grid. The potential of reduced DH-temperatures in the grid by including heat pumps and increasing the heat production by means of flue gas condensation will be included in the determination of the potential of the net increased production and reduced loss of heat for the WTE plant and the DH grid. Further economic and technical evaluations will be carried out.The potentials will be determined on 4 Danish WTE-plants.In the project the potential of increased power production, and thereby the ability of these WTE-plants to support to a greater extent an energy system more dependent of the weather will be estimated.On selected plants tests will be carried out including reduction of the DH-temperature to verify the models for the turbine and the heat exchangers etc. for the determined characteristics of the WTE-plant. Furthermore measurements of turbine vibrations will be evaluated for the new setup for the plant.This project is prepared by Weel & Sandvig and GeertiCon in corporation with AVV, AffaldPlus, Nordforbrænding and Sønderborg Kraftvarmeværk and Colding A/S.
