RTLabOS: Phase I

RTLabOS will be a new type of integration platform for PowerLabDK, enabling research in next generation SCADA systems with real-time control capabilities, improved configuration management and improved ease-of-access for testing purposes. This Phase I project will leverage on existing projects and resources creating the necessary knowledgebase.
Project description
The main objective of this project is to create a new type of integration platform (RTLabOS, ‘the platform’) for PowerLabDK, enabling research in SCADA systems (control center software short for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) with real-time control capabilities. The project will in its first phase leverage on existing resources PowerLabDK and experience from associated researchers and projects, focussing on integration and alignment of knowledge and resources. The platform to be developed will enable laboratory research on the capabilities required from future SCADA systems, such as real-time distributed control, a service-oriented architecture and the ability to facilitate market-based and emergency control of distributed resources, as well as a more rapid and consistent setup of communication links, to allow experimentation and testing with far less overhead (set-up time & effort) than possible to-day. This Phase I application (‘the project’) aims at identifying requirements, establishing feasibility, designing and evaluating architecture options for the software system-of-systems to be developed, as well as at establishing a forum for knowledge-sharing within the PowerLabDK network of projects and partners. The results will form the basis and shape for a realistic and useful “RTLabOS” integration platform.
