SIMBA Platform Project on Development and demonstration of small fuel cell systems

The objective of the project (SIMBA) is to accelerate volume production of small environmentally friendly and energy efficient stationary fuel cell (FC) systems. With the help of reformers the SIMBA FC platform will be developed for natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and methanol in the output capacity around 2 kWel.

Project description

Through the development of a common platform for 3 applications the synergy of the total volume of 3 early markets will be used to an earlier volume in production that will lead to faster cost reduction. The early market applications are: Micro Combined Heat and Power (µCHP), Home Generator (HomeGen) and Supplemental Power (SuP). The 3 system categories will be developed over a shared conceptual platform. This offers great benefits in terms of the development, production and operation experience - enabling cost reductions. Furthermore, the result of SIMBA will help to support the national energy policy goals of CO2 reductions: a µCHP unit fueled by natural gas will today save 1,5 tons of CO2 per year; when fueled by biogas the saving is 4 tons of CO2 per year. The results of the project will be used in demonstrations also outside Denmark.
