Renewable Energy Storage for the future
The project purpose is to define and demonstrate the extent to which the Danish gas distribution system can be used as infrastructure and energy storage for an energy system – fully or partly – based on hydrogen.
The project purpose is to define and demonstrate the extent to which the Danish gas distribution system can serve as energy storage for an energy system based on renewable energy.
Both practical and theoretical considerations are included in the assessment of consequences of a conversion of energy carrier from natural gas into hydrogen.
The project includes the transition phase from fossils to a RE-based energy system, where hydrogen is a small fraction of the energy mix as well as a full-developed RE supply, the hydrogen is distributed in the gas system.
The project is divided into three phases, of which Phase I and II applied in this project:
Phase I: Gas system and gas appliance´s suitability for hydrogen
Phase II: Design of demonstration project (small grid system)
Phase III: Demonstration of the operation of gas networks with hydrogen
Many issues related to national conditions (gas quality, safety regulations,…) and a particular emphasis on those aspects of the project.
