Future-proofing heat pump production in Denmark
Development and testing of a highly efficient and competitive heat pump for energy-efficient houses. The aim of the project is to develop a heat pump with a SCOP of 6.0 for floor heating (according to EN14825). The heat pump will be the most efficient heat pump for well-insulated houses, and it will be more efficient than even larger heat pumps.
Nilan is one of the remaining larger heat pump manufacturers in Denmark. Nilan is specialized in delivering heat pumps and ventilation units for well-insulated houses and has big success doing this.
Test data has been analyzed in the preparatory study, which shows that the heat pump can be improved e.g. by making the following improvements, use of:
- A second generation inverter drive for the capacity regulation of the heat pump
- Another evaporator with better distribution of refrigerant
- Another expansion valve to ensure less superheat of the refrigerant and better exploration of the evaporator
- Another refrigerant with less GWP and better efficiency (e.g. R32 or maybe R290)
The project has four phases:
- Development of a mathematical model, tuned to fit the experimental data from the preparatory study
- Collection of information on new components and calculation of the efficiency of each improvement
- Constructing and testing of prototypes: Prototypes are tested with one change at a time to see the direct impact of each change. There will be prepared test reports and analysis of results. Testing the "final" prototype at both underfloor and radiator heating.
- A final report and a paper will be prepared for an international conference
