The project will demonstrate that solar energy modules can transform an old multistory residential building into a beautiful self- sufficient architectural building getting free renewable electrical and thermal energy and free façade insulation from the innovative modules. An intelligent power and storage system will help reducing the payback time to only 5-10 years.
Project description
The aim is to demonstrate efficient use of the limited space in a multistory urban building for self- sufficient energy supply from solar BIPV/T modules. Cost effective -building integration architecture -insulation -PV and solar collector, all features are combined and demonstrated in just one innovative PVT module type developed during the first phase of the EUDP project. The demonstration of this multifunctional energy building renovation will be implemented on a residential block in the city and includes using the heat produced for hot tap water and more. This innovative multifunctional integration and insulation by such high efficiency thermal energy generated from architectural PV modules has not been shown elsewhere on residental building blocks.
Building renovations: If the demonstration proves successful as expected from the previous evaluation phase, then this PVT and energy efficiency system will be cost effective for many old buildings in cities that need renovation anyway. Thus the energy gains from this PVT system could to a large extent pay the cost of the building renovation. New buildings: For new multistory buildings, such as the new very demanding “BOLIG+” concept which should generates more energy than it uses, this demonstration project will prove cost and energy efficient solutions.
