Sensorpower – Bifacial PV Energy Reflector Tower

In this project, a standalone PV reflector tower in which a reflector enhances the solar radiation on a vertical bifacial PV panel, is developed. The tower will supply power to measurements for road traffic and stations along gas lines. Data is send wireless via suited technologies. The tower replaces cabling in the ground or battery relacements.
Project description

A PV powered sensor column transmitting wireless data via local WiFi, mobile, and satellite networks, enables a true stand-alone solution and offers many new possibilities. The sensor columns can be placed at the roadside on highways and measure traffic data enabling improved traffic signal regulations and thereby reduce the huge CO2 emission associated with red traffic lights. The sensor column can also be used for other applications such as gas line sensor stations that are placed at every few km, fauna monitoring, weather and water level monitoring, and the sensor column can be installed as a scout being the backbone of smart city concepts. For most customers it is crucial that the system has a high reliability and a design that allows the tower to be aesthetically and discretely installed in the landscape/ urban environment. Even though bifacial cells are 30% more expensive than traditional cells, the energy harvest supersedes such an expense - especially with the reflector system, and therefore the vertical bifacial panel provides a price efficient, self-cleaning power system. lt facilitates wireless communication via already known platforms such as mobile networks, wireless local networks, and satellite networks, enabling wireless data transmission on all locations including the remote ones.
