Power2Hydrogen

The Power2Hydrogen project seeks to promote a new green energy market by demonstrating feasible load shifting and the possibility of balancing the electricity grid via dynamic operation of a PEM water electrolysis plant while producing green hydrogen for high value markets such as transportation and process.
Project description
Stabilizing the electricity grid while producing green hydrogen for high value market. In society’s transition to independency of fossil fuels, several challenges must be addressed. Among these are the absorption of still increasing amounts of fluctuating energy as wind and solar in the electricity grid.In a situation where still more traditional grid stabilization units, such as power plants based on fossil fuels, are closing down, dynamic operated PEM water electrolysis plants seems to be a promising alternative in a future green energy infrastructure. In two of the Energy Scenarios for a fossil free Danish energy supply in 2050 from the Danish Energy Agency, 2014, hydrogen from mainly wind and solar plays an important role in a socio/economic optimized use of the scarce biomass resources. This use faces - on the operational level - a challenge in the way the price structure is established in the energy sector today. The Power2Hydrogen project seeks to address this challenge by demonstrating in a feasible way simultaneous balancing of the electricity grid via dynamic operation of a PEM water electrolysis plant while producing green hydrogen for high value markets such as transportation and process.
