Airmaster Decentralized Heat, Ventilation and Air Condition Unit

AMHVAC is a small, energy efficient air handling unit- for e.g. a classroom or an office -that performs all heating and cooling with an air-air heat pump. It is “decentralized” i.e. without ducting, mounted directly on an external wall. Noise problems from indoor operation of the heat pump is solved in an innovative way by active noise control, i.e. noise is removed by emitting “anti-noise” from a loudspeaker.
Project description
Airmaster A/ S, a European leader in decentralized ventilation, will develop a decentralized ventilation unit with a reversible heat pump. Decentralized meaning “'no ducts” and “one room”. The AMHVAC (AirMaster Heat, Ventilation and Air Condition) unit will handle all climatic conditioning in a room with an “intelligent” demand-based control system. There is currently no such decentralized HVAC unit on the market. This is mainly because of the noise issue related to placing the heat pump indoor with the ventilation. Airmaster in collaboration with Aalborg University have developed active noise control (ANC) technology capable of solving this issue. A main part of the project concerns the integration of ANC in the unit. Other parts are concerned with
thermodynamic dimensioning, mechanical construction, and climatic control. as improvements on existing Airmaster technology. Once developed, two demonstration units will be installed for climatic testing in a school and in a modular building. The AMHVAC will target the markets for such buildings in Northern Europe, where Airmaster currently has a strong foothold. Furthermore
the AMHVAC will broaden our markets to new areas like North America and Southern Europe, where decentralized AC is common. It is our expectation that the AMHVAC will create 30 new jobs locally.
