The project aims at utilising existing gas-fired CHP plants for balancing and peak-load services to the power markets. These types of plants most probably represent a much higher potential than assumed at the moment. Accordingly, the plants can be mobilised for these purposes with a high degree of competitiveness compared to alternatives.
Project description
The project aims at utilising existing gas-fired CHP plants for balancing and peak-load services to the power markets. These types of plants most probably represents a much higher potential than assumed at the moment. Accordingly, the plants can be mobilised for these purposes with a high degree of competitiveness compared to alternatives.
Gas-fired CHP plants, gas engines, OCGT and CCGT are suffering from low power market competitiveness combined with furture reductions in regulatory grants. The project purpose is to improve asset owner economy through three different measures: 1) Optimized utilisation of remaining lifetime 2) Optimized principles of operation and maintenance 3) Optimized operational integration with other plants. All these potential improvements will be seen in the perspective of expected future market and operational situation. Society will highly benefit from increased capacity for balancing and peak-load services in the power system.
The project will be executed by a project group consisting of specialist from Added Values, DGC and Danish District Heat Association, and will include representative asset owners for specific case analysis. As the base grant for these plants is planned to expire by the end of 2018, and accordingly project finalisation is set to summer 2017.
