Concert

The PossPOW project developed a verified real-time power curve for offshore wind power plants, also applicable under downregulation. Concert will enrich this to a full asset optimisation package, adding control, real-time loads on the turbines, and uncertainty calculation. Full scale tests at existing offshore wind farms will demonstrate the value.
Project description
In a future with even more wind power than the recent record of 140% instantaneous penetration, wind power plants will have to contribute to the safe operation of the power system. To support this, wind farms are occasionally tuned down to produce less electricity, called down-regulation. To estimate what the wind farm(s) would produce if the turbines were not down-regulated (the available power of the wind farm) was developed in another PSO project, PossPOW. DTU Wind Energy, Vattenfall, Siemens and DONG have developed a method to estimate that available power at every second using the information from the individual down-regulated turbines and a real-time wake model. 
The novelty of Concert is that it enriches that unique PossPOW algorithm with a strict uncertainty calculation, the addition of the real-time load situation and an implementation in a controller. The control strategy tries to maximise the power output while minimising the loads by changing how much each of the turbine is tuned down, still keeping the uncertainties in mind. The developed control strategy will be tested on an actual wind farm. The financial payback of reducing the uncertainties will also be evaluated using a real case.
