Security Assessment of Renewable Power Systems
Dependable power systems are of critical importance for modern societies, but as more renewable energy sources are integrated, maintaining high reliability and security of the system becomes a challenge.
With significant shares of renewable energy sources, the weather introduces fluctuations and uncertainty, which existing off-line methods for ensuring secure operation are anticipated to be inadequate. In the future, a technology which is capable of determining the security and stability of the power system in real-time is necessary.
In recent research, first steps in addressing this challenge have been taken resulting in new methods that make it possible to assess system stability and security in real-time, and determine countermeasures against threats to the system security.
Recognizing the need for such methods to be further developed and put into operation, this project proposes to further develop, integrate and implement such methods into a SW-platform for demonstration and validate the methods’ ability ensure power system security. The platform will be capable of being integrated with existing data-streams from the field and can prove that this new technology is suitable to combat the future challenges.
