The Danish electricity distribution grids are currently facing a large penetration of new devices based on power electronic converters such as solar PVs and heat pumps that are raising new problems for the Distributions System Operators (DSO) in their daily operation of their distribution grids. Smart metering infrastructures has the potential of providing useful and much needed insight into the distribution grids. The key idea of the project is to make smart meter data available to the DSO’s to exploit this potential for their operational benefit. The key challenges are; 1) to timely collect the large amount of data provided by the smart meters which are consistent with the real world and 2) to avoid incompleteness in the data caused by failures in communication to smart meters, legislative restrictions or cyber attacks. These factors degrade quality of the data and make it hard to provide real time metering data while maintaining certain data quality and integrity. This project develops a system for collecting, visualizing and using smart meter data, evaluate it in 1) for safety reason a test bed in relation security and asset management, and 2) a field test where data is efficiently visualized and used.
