FlexReStore: Flexible Retail Stores

The Danish retail sector can be a key player in the future smart grid by providing flexible energy consumption. The use of intelligent energy solutions in the retail sector is hampered by shortsighted economic thinking and low profit margins. The project addresses these potentials and the motivation for the retail sector in general to be an active player in the smart grid. The project elements include holistic studies of the motivation factors among retail stores and their customers, establishment of an energy guild for the retail sector, estimation of the concrete flexibility potential in Danish retail stores, development of new retail store designs that increase the flexibility potential and development of ICT-based tools for management of flexibility in retail stores. The studies will focus on stores of the project user group. The project outcomes will provide key recommendations on how to encourage the retail sector to participate in the Danish smart grid and ICT tools to help foster their inclusion. Furthermore, the project will establish an energy guild for the retail sector as an innovation funnel for new smart grid products and service to the sector.
