Contribution to IEA ISGAN Annex 7: Smart grid transition and institutionalisation - market formation and consumers

Managment Engineering

The objective of Annex 7 in the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) is to investigate smart grid transition processes in society and institutional changes associated with these. The project facilitates the exchange of knowledge and views relating to smart grids between the international ISGAN-Annex 7 community and Danish stakeholders- including industry, research organisations, government and NGO's.

Project description

The objective of Annex 7 in the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) is to investigate smart grid transition processes in society and institutional changes associated with these. Using a transition framework, the Annex intends to gather information and knowledge from a cross-disciplinary field of social sciences, e.g. innovation studies, political sciences, institutional economics, and sociology. The Annex is supporting and complementing technology oriented smart grid activities and can make important added value for policy makers, strategic planners, and other stakeholders. The project includes participation in the international meetings of Annex 7.  A background group with Danish stakeholders is established in order to discuss the perspectives of the transition insights ín form of  thematic Roundtable discussions. insight from the ISGAN and Rountable meetings are disseminated to Danish stakeholders in collaboration with The Danish Intelligent Energy Alliance, through workshops or conference presentation of through newsletters/magazines. The new contribution to the ISGAN Smart Grid Transition Annex is made in dialogue with the lead operating agent on the Annex, Austrian Institute of Technology (Klaus Kubeczko). It is expected that the Danish contribution will offer valuable new insight, be a good activity injection to the Annex, and support dialogue about future ISGAN efforts.
