Integration of solar cells in roof or facade made of flat tiles

The purpose of the project is to develop technical, solid, aesthetical, and architectonically qualified solutions for integration of solar cells in roofs and facades made of flat brick tiles. The demand for flat brick tiles is increasing for both large-scale buildings and standard single-family houses.

Project description

The purpose of the project is to develop technical, solid, aesthetical, and architectonically qualified solutions for integration of solar cells in roofs and facades made of flat brick tiles. The demand for flat brick tiles is increasing for both large-scale buildings and standard single-family houses. Because of the increased market demand, the manufacturer of tiles have started developing this new type of tile bricks to put it into production. The development of the new brick tile is at a stage where it is beneficial to design integrated solutions for solar cells that correspond to this new product. In this way, there is an overall solution when the product reach the market; an overall solution that is both technically sound and architectonically adapted.

The market development suggests an increased demand for flat brick tiles in the future, and the use of solar cells in new buildings likewise. This project will produce technically documented solutions; therefore, integration of solar cells will not result in additional costs or experimental attempts. The project defines parameters of good integration and develops prototypes. The documented standard solutions will be described in data sheets and instructions.
