Thin vacuum insulation for post-insulation of buildings

Proof of concept development of material for post-insulation of existing buildings with
• 5-10 times better lambda value
• Insulation 1 cm thin so your don't need to modify existing window frames, floor panels, electrical
and heating installations
• Do It Yourself montage
100 billion square meters un-insulated building envelope is waiting for this material

Project description

This is a proof of concept project validating an invention of a thin, finished, self adhesive and easy to cut
that everybody can insulate their home without having to call electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters
etc.

The raw material is abundant, inexpensive and provides no health, environmental or waste problems. As the
raw material is inexpensive, increasing volumes of production will lead to falling prices of the insulation
material.

If we finally had a good material for post insulation of the building envelope it will have a significant effect on
the overall energy consumption not only in Denmark but in the rest of the world. Even in Denmark almost
half the buildings need insulation and the max potential of this material is a 10% reduction in national and
international energy consumption of green house gasses

The aim of this project is to proof of concept develop an insulation material for post-insulation of existing
buildings with the following functionality:
• Lambda value of down to 0,004 W/mK
• 1 cm3 cubes for 1 cm thick insulation
• Compression strength of more than 2 kg/cm2
• Finished white surface
• Self adhesive for Do It Yourself montage
• Price below 480 kr/m2 ex WAT
• Geometry with 0,05 mm from the perfect 1cm cube except at rounded corners
