Ceiling System for hybrid cooling of office buildings with dynamic facades

A ceiling providing hybrid ventilation and cooling of office buildings is developed, including: System design balancing mechanical and natural ventilation; control of air volumes and velocities adapted to standard components and BMS/IBI; diffusors, dynamic facade air intakes; dimensioning program. Focus is on energy efficiency, energy flexibility, indoor climate and economy.
Project description

JS Ventilation's new draft free cooling ceiling operates with lower air temperatures than traditional ventilation systems. This provides an ideal opportunity for better use of natural ventilation. Based on the "Cool Ceiling" product, this project developes a ceiling with hybrid cooling and ventilation, including:

1. Dynamic facade air intakes, design respecting the architecture
2. Induction diffusors ensuring comfort
3. System design providing balance between mechanical and natural ventilation, including interaction with an atrium/chimney effect, horizontal natural cross ventilation and wind conditions around the building
4. Control of air volumes and -velocities adapted to the standard components and BMS/IBI
5. Dimensioning program with design guidelines for hybrid solutions, both on room and building level, regarding the dynamic facade, the buldings' energy demand, heat accumulation, the options for energy flexibility, and effect of smart energy tariff systems
